Winters and I don’t get along very well.
I have always lived where winter equals cold.
Kacia + cold = not a happy Kacia.
This year, I told myself it would be different–we are in a new house, more space…all of that.
Yet somehow, the gloom has reappeared.
I think it’s partly just being ready for spring and bare feet mixed with the extreme cold temperatures and no sun.
Any tips? I’m going to start planning out our week with more activities–but all this sickness has me paranoid, I admit.
I’d love to hear any suggestions you might have!
Anyone else deal with the when-is-winter-over-blues?

I too suffer from wintertime blues every year right around this time. This year I’m doing my best to plan casual outings with friends and invite them to share meals as well. I’m also doing my best to exercise regularly- something that is always the first to go in the wintertime!

I completely understand girl. I’ve been in Ohio almost all my life {we got to spend almost 2 years in Arizona} and I hate the cold. But I realized playing music all the time is something that always keeps my spirits up.
OH! I like that! I’ve kind of gotten out of my habit of continual music!! Great idea!!
I don’t know how you’re doing it – one of the biggest things I was excited about when we moved from Colorado was the fact that it would be warmer sooner! I know that just getting outside in the sun when it’s there was HUGE for me during the cold winter months!
YES. it’s the lack of sun thing—written as I see the SUN peeking around the clouds!!! A miracle!! — I think i’m going to look into a sunlamp!
I don’t live in a place where it gets extremely cold–and if it does, it isn’t for long–but it still effects me. To supplement and discourage my winter “woes” I take a vitamin D supplement and I have considered getting a sun lamp. I have friends who have them and spend just 30 minutes in the morning under them (usually while in the word) and they say it helps tremendously.
And yes, you are right, Spring is coming. :)
any Vitamin D brands you recommend?? I’m not a big vitamin-taker…
Currently, I am taking NatureMade Vitamin D. Within a few days, I could notice a difference.
However, I have heard good things about Vitamin D3, 2,000–they are organic….I haven’t tried them.

Oh, do I ever hear you. I just moved from Colorado (land of sunshine) back to the cold & gloomy Northeast, with quite a bit of anxiety about how I would handle the winters. I realized today that the cold/dark combo is beginning to get me down. You’d think I would see it coming after growing up in North Dakota and going to school near Boston! What works for me: Exercise. Taking a midday walk in whatever sunshine I can find. Planning some sort of excursion that I can look forward to that will take me out of my everyday routine. Also, I’m looking into vitamins and a sunlamp. (Both recommended by my Dr. Mom. Who is actually a doctor.)
Any sun lamp you recommend, Em???

Aaaaand her moderately unhelpful response: none are particularly better than others in terms of how well they work. So go for price! (Target carries them, apparently.)
Good to know! Because I got impatient and caved – but I went with cheap! So far I really like it-I need to get more consistent before decide if it helps or not!

To cope with the cold winter we’ve been taking middle of the day bubble baths and then reading stories in the steamy bathroom :) It has become a much loved tradition each day with my kiddos!
