You know those places that cause you to relax and enjoy the simplicity of life? The places that don’t have wifi or cable television–and I still wish my cell phone didn’t work there.
Those places. The places that are rustic and cozy.
Heated by a wood stove.
Built by loving hands–log by log.
A place where family comes together just to be together.
One of those places for me is Andy’s family cabin.
Years ago, my father-in-law learned of a cabin that was to be torn down. Somehow, instead of tearing it down, they allowed him to take down the cabin: log by log, marking each one as he went. He then went on to rebuild the cabin –adding a second floor and living room space –on their property in a little town about 3 hours from us.
If it sounds idyllic? Well, it is.
And if taking apart and building a cabin sounds like a lot of work to you? I think it was.
Each time we drive back from the cabin, there are two thoughts that always go through my head:
1. I would love a fireplace. It’ll definitely be on the must list if we ever move.
2. I want to get to the cabin more often as a family. I want to slow down. I want to be outside. I want to sit on the porch.
I know we don’t technically need to go anywhere to slow down, but sometimes it helps. It helps to take a moment to step back and observe. I want to be intentional about these choices for us as a family–before we blink and the time is gone.
{Psst! I’m working hard behind the scenes to get the shop up and running for January 1, 2013. I may be sleep deprived and cross-eyed when that day arrives, but it’ll be worth it. Can’t wait to get these sweet scarves into y’all’s homes!}
