I’ve said it before, and I will say it again: I love matching my girl, Harlow. Until she tells me that I’m not allowed to, I will continue coordinating our outfits to my heart’s desire. I’m not worried about her voicing her opinions — she definitely makes her’s known, and I love that about her.
To have a little fun, I showed her what I was going to wear and asked her to pick out something to match. She told me, “I need to wear my striped pants then, mommy!” when she saw my new silk tunic from Twice.
Twice is an amazing and totally addicting website that buys and sells premium secondhand fashion. You will see brands like Burberry, J.Crew, Free People and many Anthropologie labels. As someone who doesn’t buy a ton of statement pieces — I love me some classic and timeless — I have absolutely fallen in love with buying some of these fun pieces at Twice for a fraction of the cost.
This discount will expire on 1/15/15 — so hurry!
A few other fun facts about Twice. I love how easy it is to search by type of clothing, size, color, brand, and even specialty sizes (tall and petite). Sales aren’t final: they accept returns within 30 days as long as the tags are still attached and the clothing is in the same condition. If you sign up to receive the Twice Daily New Arrivals email, you will earn 10% off your entire order if you happen to buy one of the items shown in your email!
Selling is also easy with Twice: receive a selling kit with prepaid shipping and Twice takes care of the rest. You can also earn 25% more when you choose to be paid in Twice store credit. So easy!
Living far from my family is definitely difficult. I would give anything to swing over to my parents’ house when Andy works late or see them at church on a Sunday, but it makes me all the more thankful for the time we get to spend with them. So many of my memories of my childhood involve the many roadtrips we would take to visit family or go on trips. We’d pack up our bag of “to-do” items, measure the trip in Adventures in Odyssey episodes, and make sure the seating arrangements were fair at all times. I love those memories, and while traveling can be full of ups and downs, I love these adventures with our little family.
I wanted to share some of our 2-day road trip traveling fashion for Harlow and I — highlighting in particular these amazing tennis shoes we both got from Rack Room Shoes.
I mean, in all seriousness…they are pretty hard to miss!
DAY ONE
A big part of the traveling equation is comfort. For me, comfortable pair of shoes is the top of my list – especially when it’s a trip during the winter months….into the artic-cold of the Midwest (just kidding…kinda). I want a pair of shoes that are warm, easy to slip on and off and most of all — I sound like a broken record — comfortable. I have never before tried Asics tennis shoes, and I’m happy to say that I might be hooked. I’m excited to try running in these shoes as well!
Harlow picked out these neon pink Nikes from Rack Room Shoes. If you’ve had any conversations about color with her, you would not be surprised by her loud choice. ;) What I love about these shoes is the ease in which she is able to put them on herself. They have a fake-lace look with a velcro strap to actually tighten the shoe on her foot. She loves them. I love them. Winnity win, win, win!
I wish someone was paying me a dollar for every time I wrote the word comfortable in this post… ;)
So how did our 2-day adventure go? So well! Harlow was a great traveler, content to look for animals out her window and search for colored trucks. After my solo road trip to Wisconsin with her (while 33 weeks pregnant…I don’t recommend it) she hasn’t asked for the iPad once. I think having no choice to turn around and attend to her needs during that trip while I was driving forced her to grab the items within her reach. She loves reading her books, coloring and just chatting with us — I’m so thankful! I was nervous about how frequently we would need to stop for Jones, but he did great as well! I know this might be him just making us overly confident, but I’ll just take one trip at a time — calling his first one a success!
How about you — what’s your go-to travel attire?
And a very, very important question for you as well: the louder the tennis shoes the better the mama? or am I forgetting how that saying goes….. ;)
be sure to check out these other amazing moms and their sweet girls!
I hope you are having a wonderful time with family! I haven’t been opening my computer much, and it’s been such a breath of fresh air. If I owe you an email — I will be tackling those in a few days. I’m not ready to be done soaking up our family time – thanks!
xo
This post was done in collaboration with Rack Room Shoes. All opinions and love for loud, neon tennis shoes are my own. (and Harlow’s!)
I’ve often said that I will look for excuses to match Harlow until she tells me that I’m not allowed to anymore — and I will keep on saying that and living it. While sometimes I love matching her a bit more overtly, but other times I love being a bit more coy in my matching endeavors. When given the opportunity to team up withafewgalsfor a mom and daughter style post, you know I jumped all over that!
First up: Rackroom Shoes.
I immediately was drawn to a simple pair of black boots for each of us! I picked a tall, over the knee Women’s Boot for me and a Toddler fuzzy interior boot for Harlow. We walk a lot given our city-living lifestyle including church on Sundays. Boots that we can pair with dresses are key for us both during the winter. I love that Harlow is a tomboy-princess. You will often find her with a tiara and princess dress helping Andy in the basement with her Home Depot apron and a hammer. So combining a fancy dress and boots? It’s a combination that fits her perfectly.
Have I mentioned how awesome she is?
Harlow was really getting into taking photos today. In case you were wondering if life was boring around here…. ;)
Harlow’s dress was a find by my mother-in-law at the local Repurposed.
My dress is a nursing dress from emoi emoi ….that I will probably wear every day. I love it!
Be sure to check out the gals sharing their holiday fashion with their mini-me’s today too!
I told emoi emoi that I have a goal of making Maman Poule a well known and loved phrase here in the states. It translates from French as “Mother Hen,” and I just love it.
So consider this post my first brainwashing post. Beware of the subliminal messages I’ve hidden throughout — just kidding.
I’m on a mission to find nursing-friendly apparel for the fall and winter months. As I mentioned last week, this nursing with so many layers thing is so new to me!
And as someone who is chronically cold…. I need layers and things to keep me warm. Sometimes I’m all about the “made for nursing” gear — like this sweatshirt or this shawl — but I also like finding regular ‘ole items that allow for either the ease of nursing or double as a cover.
This cardigan does just that. It’s soft and drapey (I’m not sure that’s a real word…it drapes really well? ha) and perfect with leggings or jeans or a pair of yoga pants around the house. It’s even the perfect layer to wear over a wrap/sling/baby carrier! It’s not overly heavy or hot, but perfect to give you a little extra coverage. The long front panels are perfect to use as a little nursing cover, while still keeping the cardigan on and staying warm.
Winnity win win win!
How about you? Where are your favorite legit-nursing-top places to shop? And where are your fake-nursing-top places to shop? I want to hear’m!
We entered the world of fakery when we decided on a rainy Saturday. We budgeted for the tree we thought we were going to get, found one we liked better in person for about half the cost….got the last one, which was a floor model, so we got a discount. Grabbed a tree bag to bring it home and store it in, given it had no box (display one), but the bag was clearly used and returned…complete with a hole and a broken zipper, so that came along with our tree for tree.
Harlow posed with the forest behind her, so we’d always this tree-fetching remember the moment. She’s of course doing her best ostrich face.
Then Jones got all dressed up for a birthday party that afternoon for our sweet friends JoJo and baby Marion-berry. Do you remember this squishy babe? She’s turning one. HOW.
Then we got Thai take out, put on Elf for the first time this year — Harlow loved it — and decorated the tree. We have the cutest spot of ornaments all about to fall off of the 2 needles they are each somehow perched upon, but Harlow was so proud and so into decorating the tree.
I thought two was a magical Christmas year….but I think it just keeps getting better.
Then we all slept in (past 6:30 that is….) and it was glorious.
After church, Jones modeled the mega-pom hat design that was in my head for a while, but needed to become a reality. I had to keep asking him to quit rolling over.
Yes. ROLLING. He started the day he turned two months, and hasn’t stopped since. I want to cry.
Not ready yet, Jonesy.
Oh! And I finally got my act together and created the instagram account I’ll use for flash sales — think hats and boots and diaper rags and who knows what else.
I promise to try and keep the awesome factor high. Well that and the pompom size awesome, too.
Then we got all fancy for the Reindeer Ball, and we wrangled Jeff, our neighbor, into taking our photo. He got some really great ones of us smiling and looking fancy-schmancy….but
Harlow is obsessed with her pink princess dress and couldn’t stop telling Andy how handsome he was.
I totally agree, Harls. I totally agree.
Then Harlow awesomely photobombed our red light selfie. And we all got a case of the giggles.
That guy is pretty handsome, isn’t he?
And then we arrived and we all had a blast. Harlow and her friend Charlotte tore up the dance floor, met Santa (and his 20 year old wife ;) and I don’t think either of them lost their smile for more than it took to beg for more ice cream.
Thank you, Kate, Brian and Charlotte for inviting us to join you this year at the Reindeer Ball — we love you guys!
And then we came home to a house with Christmas tree lights shining through front windows, and I couldn’t help but smile. I told Andy that I want to start putting the Christmas tree up the minute the temperature starts to get cold, because it puts me in such an amazing mood seeing it standing in our living room sparkling away.
Cheesy, I know, but true. And now that we have a fake tree, I can leave it up forever! I kid. I kid.
But this guy is serious.
Happy Monday!
xo
The sentence structure and grammar in this post is downright awful, but I’m leaving it. xo!
