I’m what you could call a Scandinavian mutt. I grew up knowing that I was 1/2 Norwegian, 1/4 English, 1/8 Danish, and 1/8 Swedish.
That’s something everyone learns after their name, right?
I took a lot of pride in those percentages–I still do.
And even though my mom isn’t Norwegian at all, she knits the most absolutely gorgeous Norwegian sweaters. She’s probably turning red as she reads this–she’s super humble and extremely talented.
Back when I was in high school–and still had the ability to focus on a project longer than a day–I decided I wanted to knit a Norwegian sweater. But my mother, being the genius she is, told me that I needed to knit a toddler sweater before attempting an adult size.
Yesterday?
Harlow picked it out to wear.
Sure, it’s blue and black. Not exactly the most feminine.
Sure, it was too big. I had to roll up the sleeves 3 times.
But I couldn’t stop smiling.
Did I think about my son or daughter that would someday wear it?
Did I wonder what life would be like with a child? with children?
I know for sure that I didn’t realize I would get a little emotional as she walked down the stairs.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
A part of me goes into each item I design and create. It feels cheesy and silly to say it, but it’s true. I can’t help it.
I think about the person or child receiving it. Sometimes I name the design after them, so I don’t forget.
I often start again and again when my perfectionism rears its head. I want to send something, give you something I am proud of.
A piece of my heart. A little bit of me travels along with each piece. Call me silly, it’s the truth.
Here is another fact:
2 days ago it was over 70°.
Yesterday I stepped outside in a t-shirt, only to see my own breath, as it was just over 30°.
Tomorrow it is supposed to snow.
So while winter hats and scarves felt a bit goofy on Sunday, I will be needing them tomorrow!
And because I just love this scarf so much–and it kind of seems to be cold everywhere right now!
So I decided a giveaway was in order.
Let’s give away a Gloriana Scarf!
yeah?
{Use the rafflecopter below to enter, or if you don’t have facebook, leave a comment for each item you complete, and I will manually enter you to win as well.}
Open to US and Canada Shipping Addresses Only {sorry!}
You choose color of yarn and leather! Giveaway ends Sunday night, January 20th, at midnight.
This new scarf is one of my absolute favorite designs! I know it might not be for everyone, but I just love the femininity of a wearing a bow. I loved it so much after I made it, but I always wonder if others will love it too.
So what do you think?
The Gloriana scarf is made of 100% wool–super soft roving wool. It’s not itchy, and it’s so warm! If you are unable to wear wool, I will work with you to find a fiber that works best for you.
oh! And since I will dress to match my daughter until she won’t let me anymore, I promise to show you the Gloriana *toddler* Scarf soon!
Available January 1, 2013 when our new shop opens!
{INSERT HAPPY DANCE HERE!}
And because I keep telling you all about how un-glamourous and dorky I am, I thought I’d share what I look like in most of the photos I weed through: Rachel somehow snaps a few shots in between my stink faces and chatting. See? I’m a dork.
The talented Rachel Rowland took these photos for me–I had to show off her new puppy!! Maeby is a Newfoundland: absolutely huge and precious. She’s got Wyler beat in the size department!
The spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.
If a sole had a soul, I kind of think it would be something that makes it unique + timeless.
Yes, I just gave a pair of baby shoes a soul. Sorry.
The truth is, I just love making beautiful designs for everyone. And I really wish I had unlimited hours, unlimited energy, never requiring sleep or food … ever. Oh! And I would also like an unlimited income: because I just love making people smile. It always makes me smile too.
Each Coconut Robot item is made to order. I spend a lot of time on each piece – as well as a lot of heart. I know that sounds cheesy: but it’s true.
Today I want to show you some of the ways that our boots, slippers + shoes can be customized. The aspect of our designs that I would say has the most heart and soul: because a piece of my heart definitely goes in the box to be shipped away.
the sole.
Besides color and size and design, each sole can be etched. Not only can these shoes be worn until those growing feet cannot squeeze inside anymore, but they are keepsakes for years to come.
The possibilities for customization are close to endless.
Email me if you’d like to order and glance at our gallery for our designs.
