I have been SO excited to share many of the ways that I love wearing Jones!

Oh, you noticed that I’m not exactly wearing Jonesy in these photos? Ha! It’s one of the perks of babysitting one of your best friend’s babies who also happens to be an amazing photographer: wrap baby Evie, snap a few photos, and I’ve got my hands free to care for Harlow and Jonesy too.  (Evie is about 3 weeks younger than Jones and about 5 million times smaller and I love it! It was so fun wearing this squish all morning!)

One of those ways I love wearing my babies?  The Happy Baby Wrap.  Happy Baby wraps are made from 100% organic bamboo and custom dyed in a myriad of colors and patterns.  I honestly don’t know how to describe how soft these wraps are…imagine your most soft, worn in and old t-shirt that you cannot part with because it’s like butter to wear.  Now multiply that times 10….or even a few more.  That soft.

Not only do I love these wraps because of the fabric and comfort, but I love the education and information they bring to moms at all “stages” of babywearing.  The Happy Baby Wrap allows for you to wrap first and then put your baby inside.  It is such a great way to learn!

I’m a huge advocate of getting babies out of carseats for errands and just life in general.  For one, carseats are heavy and my back can take about 1 minute of carrying Jones in it.  Secondly, why not seize every opportunity to snuggle and kiss that sweet baby head!  And third, you also have more space in your cart when you are wearing your little baby!  I could keep listing more reasons, but I’ll stop at three. ;) I love that the Happy Baby Wrap is small and easy to plop in a diaper bag.  It comes in a small bag with plenty of room to put it back in — don’t you hate when you have to fold something just right to get it back inside its carrying case?  Don’t worry about that with this wrap! Another thing I like to do is wrap it up before leaving the house.  Put on your Happy Baby Wrap, and then stuff your babe inside when you arrive at your destination!

There are so many great resources on the Happy Baby Wrap website to educate you in the various ways this wrap can be worn.  It’s incredibly important to read the instructions — search YouTube if you learn well by watching videos!  I cannot stress enough the importance to wearing your baby high and snug in any type of baby carrier or wrap!

Always remember TICKS:

  • T: Tight
  • I: In view at all times
  • C: Close enough to kiss
  • K: Keep chin off chest
  • S: Supported Back

I find it really helpful to reach out to someone and get hands-on help.  Once you feel a correct carry, you’ll know if you have it wrong!

mom & daughter style series: the Holidays with Rackroom

I’ve often said that I will look for excuses to match Harlow until she tells me that I’m not allowed to anymore — and I will keep on saying that and living it.  While sometimes I love matching her a bit more overtly, but other times I love being a bit more coy in my matching endeavors.  When given the opportunity to team up with a few gals for a mom and daughter style post, you know I jumped all over that!

First up: Rackroom Shoes.

I immediately was drawn to a simple pair of black boots for each of us!  I picked a tall, over the knee Women’s Boot for me and a Toddler fuzzy interior boot for Harlow.  We walk a lot given our city-living lifestyle including church on Sundays.  Boots that we can pair with dresses are key for us both during the winter.  I love that Harlow is a tomboy-princess.  You will often find her with a tiara and princess dress helping Andy in the basement with her Home Depot apron and a hammer.  So combining a fancy dress and boots?  It’s a combination that fits her perfectly.

Have I mentioned how awesome she is?

Harlow was really getting into taking photos today.  In case you were wondering if life was boring around here…. ;)

Harlow’s dress was a find by my mother-in-law at the local Repurposed.

My dress is a nursing dress from emoi emoi ….that I will probably wear every day. I love it!

I’m on a mission to find nursing-friendly apparel for the fall and winter months.  As I mentioned last week, this nursing with so many layers thing is so new to me!

And as someone who is chronically cold…. I need layers and things to keep me warm.  Sometimes I’m all about the “made for nursing” gear — like this sweatshirt or this shawl —  but I also like finding regular ‘ole items that allow for either the ease of nursing or double as a cover.

This cardigan does just that.  It’s soft and drapey (I’m not sure that’s a real word…it drapes really well? ha) and perfect with leggings or jeans or a pair of yoga pants around the house.  It’s even the perfect layer to wear over a wrap/sling/baby carrier!  It’s not overly heavy or hot, but perfect to give you a little extra coverage.  The long front panels are perfect to use as a little nursing cover, while still keeping the cardigan on and staying warm.

Winnity win win win!

When Jones was born, it had been a while since I’d had a nursing baby — and the first time having a newborn into the cooler weather.  I honestly wasn’t expecting to be as “stuck” feeling as I was when the weather took a turn and got coooooold.  I needed clothes that actually kept me warm (I am always cold), but also allowed for easy-access — I don’t think I need to explain any further. :)

I found out about Seraphine, and I absolutely love their nursing designs.  I love that the designer, Cecile Reinaud, is also a mom, and her goal in creating these pieces was stylish design paired with comfort and durability.  This nursing shawl is a lifesaver.  It’s incredibly soft and can also be worn as a scarf.  It’s so cute with leggings and boots as well.

I have a few other favorites as well: this top (softest material ever), stripes, and the shoulder detail.  This sweater would be the most perfect traveling top!

I love that so many of these designs can be worn beyond nursing — be sure to check out Seraphine maternity as well!

What’s your favorite piece from Seraphine?
